The Proofread!

Proofreading is the final polish that looks out for any spelling mistakes or typing errors that have been missed during previous rounds of editing.

During the publishing process, the proofreading happens after the book has been designed and laid out by the typesetter in PDF form, looking as a finished book page does. We proofread in this way so that we can see exactly what the reader is going to see when the book is published.

For writers who are pursuing traditional publishing, a proofread must be a part of your self-editing before you pitch or submit your manuscript to publishers and literary agents.

In these instances, you will likely be proofreading in a word document.

For writers who pursue self-publishing, a professional proofread needs to be a non-negotiable on your to do list.

Why is proofreading so important?

Proofreaders are looking for typos, grammatical errors, or any inconsistencies that could jolt the reader out of the narrative. We don’t want the reader being distracted from the story!

The proofread is a quality check, executed in conjunction with your style guide. It is not an edit but the process of highlighting any errors or mistakes. Where appropriate, formatting and design may be checked too.

No matter how perfect your manuscript may appear, a pair of fresh eyes can often find the errors that are determined to sneak through. It is an essential step on any book’s journey.
Proofreading is the final check that allows the story to do its thing, uninterrupted.

That’s what I’m here to help with!

I can give your manuscript that final polish so that your readers will focus on what matters: your story!

A proofread does not equal perfection. I’m only human, after all. No book is ever guaranteed to be 100% error free, but I do promise to ensure that your manuscript will better for having been through my proofreading process.
